A new addition to Newcastle is the Anzac Memorial Bridge along Memorial Drive. With stunning coastal views across the water and in the other direction the city, this is a walk worth doing. Mothers’ Day, I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to knock this off my bucket list. I really wanted to take advantage of the family fun day ticket on public transport but after looking at the location, it was best to drive.

I am so pleased with our decision to just pack the kids in the car and drive up the road. There is plenty of parking down near the surf club and beach and also on the roadside at the other end of Memorial drive.

It seemed that everyone had the same idea and the locals with their dogs were out in full force. The sun was shining yet the wind was starting to pick up.

I think this is a walk for those who are not scared of heights and for those who are reasonably fit. It’s not only the walk up the hill, there is also stairs before you reach the beginning of the bridge.

The wind became pretty fierce on our visit and the numbers of people did make the bridge tremor from time to time.

The ANZAC Memorial Bridge honours the WW1 diggers from Newcastle with their names engraved on each of the metal figurines. It’s a lovely Memorial and well worth the visit.
