We can’t get enough of these prehistoric creatures. The National Dinosaur Museum holds Australia’s largest display of dinosaurs. It’s also the place to learn all about the history of our Australian dinosaurs who roamed this great land. The museum is open 7 days from 10am to 5pm. There is plenty of parking and as you enter the complex you are greeted by lifelike model dinosaurs. Our 2 got a kick out of walking through the large T-Rex mouth into the Museum. Inside the doors, the excitement continues. Entry is just $42 for the family which is extremely reasonable for the next 2+ hours of fun. The staff are charismatic, informative and brilliant with the kids. They will hand you a quiz to complete and once completed, kids are rewarded with their very own dinosaur hunting licence and a free gem stone. Following the footprints up the stairs, the first thing we noticed is the 3 giant prehistoric dinosaurs flying above us. On the top level, there is an incredible amount of hands on displays, from life size interactive dinosaurs, from bones to minerals and fossils. There is information from the evolution of life to how dinosaurs evolved and who their direct descendants are today. Did you know that descendants of Dinosaurs are actually birds? Until recent years, I always thought they were reptiles and crocodiles were a direct descendant. This is not the case. The Cassowary is a perfect example of a descendant from the dinosaurs. Another cool interactive exhibit was using your personal mobile phone to watch dinosaur eggs hatching. Heading back downstairs, your family fun does not end there. Left of the stairs is the giant gift shop, stocked with all dinosaur and prehistoric inspired gifts and souvenirs including a giant gem pit and further back you will discover the Ice Age Exhibit complete with a gigantic woolly mammoth. To the right is the room with puzzles, books, colouring in, magnifying glasses to check out the rock and fossil display table and plenty of photo opportunities. I can honestly say this is a TOP Attraction for all ages.
